Heavy static sound coming from all HDMI components on Pioneer VSX 920, caused by Amazon Firestick?

Hello everyone, I own a Pioneer VSX 920 that I'm having problems with. Last week, while watching cable tv, I noticed the audio changed dramatically, it got very muffled and very Bassy. I tried changing to different listening modes like plane stereo as well as some of the simulated modes like unplugged, drama etc. Nothing helped, kept getting the same muffled sound. It was happening with every component hooked up through HDMI to the receiver, only my CD player sounded normal.

I asked my brother to unplug it and plug it back in with hopes that might clear the problem. Thing is, when he reached for the power cord he accidentally bumped into the Amazon Fire stick which was sticking out of the very top HDMI port. When he bumped it, the sound got normal for a second. So he unplugged the fire stick and plugged it back in. First of all, when he tried to unplug it, his hand slipped and the f ire stick was sticking out halfway, and at that point there was a very loud Bassy static coming from the speakers, 10 times louder than before. That sound went away when he removed the stick totally. But when he plugged it back in, everything was fine, just doing that fixed everything. The system was fine for about a week but now it's doing the same thing again. I'm disabled so unfortunately cannot unplug the fire stick myself. My bro was planning on stopping by and when he did, just like before, he removed the fire stick and the audio went back to normal. However, this time, when he plugged the fire stick back in, the audio was still bad. He removed it again and put it back in and this time the audio cleared up.

So, my question to you all is any idea what's causing this? I've had the receiver for many years, at least six and it's never given me a problem. I've had the fire stick for around 5 years and same thing, never any problem unti l now. A friend who's pretty good with electronics thinks there's probably a short in the connector of the fire stick and because all the HDMI ports are connected through the same circuit board and run through the same HDMI signalprocessor. , that's why the sound is messed up on all those other components too. Do you all agree? My friend suggested unplugging an HDMI component I don't use very often, like my Blu-ray player and plugging the fire stick into that port and see if the same problem happens again. Do you all have Any other thoughts on what the problem could be? I was so convinced it was the receiver that was messed up, I went on eBay and bought the exact same model. Oh well, I suppose I still may need it or I could just keep it as a backup, lol.

Sorry for such a long post, and thanks in advance for any info you all can provide!

I agree, the Fire stick is the most likely cause given what you've tried. I would just replace the Fire. The newer models are better IMO anyway.

I'd experiment with different firesticks/streamers vs avrs generally. I've got two firesticks (v2?) that are getting old....one has a particular issue with holding 5.1 audio....every now and then it drops to just surround (on a 5.2 setup), and will have to cycle 2.0/stereo and back to 5.1 for front channels to come alive again. The different port experiment would be one thing to try, but the potential damage to device/port with a bump with hdmi is very possible, too.
