I didn't watch them (I don't watch TV), but it's cool that he got a win. I bet it meant a lot to his family.

Yep, I did not watch the Oscars - don't see movies in the theaters (just can't stand the 30+ minutes of BS before the film starts - I'm a Netflix rental NUT and will eventually see all of the films in the nominations; and will buy those that interest me).

However, I do own the Batman film w/ Ledger, and thought he was outstanding in that role (now Jack N. was also good as the Joker but did not receive as much attention) - unfortunately, as w/ many Oscar wins, sentimental feelings seems to always have some kind of impact (e.g. let's give the Oscar to Kate W. because she has already been up so often and has not won yet - hmmm - seems to be an often common theme) - so, as is always the question, if Keith had not died, would be had been nominated and much less won a supporting Oscar - not here to judge and still enjoyed him in that role - :)

I think Ledger made The Dark Knight. His character was so dark and distorted. There wasn't a moment in the movie that he was normal. He did a superb job IMO and kept you on the edge of your seat as to what he would do or say next.

The scenes when he would explain to potential victims how he got the scars on his face were super suspensful to me.

I think he certainly deserved an Oscar for his performance...

I can't say it was the best character I have watched oh wait I just might. I thought he was perfect. "I thought" Remember this is just my 2 cents. I felt he took away from batman witch was good cause we have all known batman. so a new main character was great. To me the part with him in the cop car with his head out the window really showed who his character was.

I think he pulled off the true essence of Joker, that gleeful unapologetic malevolence, better than ever before. Jack wasn't Joker, he was a mobster in a clown suit. Ledger was really Joker.

And I loved the original Batman. Nicholson played a great role. The role just wasn't the Joker.

I had read (at the time of his death) that the character of The Joker disturbed Heath so much, that he had to take anti depressants to get the character out of his head. A shame that he would die because of an accidental overdose of these pills. But the fact he got so into character that it mentally screwed with who he was, shows how dedicated he was to getting "into character" and we the viewer get to see the fruits oi his labor." The fact that his performance and dedication to his craft was so superb that he clearly won this Oscar, even if he hadn't died. He was just that good and out of all those nominated along with Ledger, none of them even came close to the acting job that Ledger did on TDK.

I agree on Ledger, however, I thought it was a toss up between Mickey Rourke's Wrestler, Randy the Ram and Ledger's Joker. In both, it seems as though the actor immersed himself in a character so much that it's hard to imagine getting back out. I didn't really think that Rourke would get an Oscar, mainly because he is such an outsider but I was glad that they were in separate categories so they wouldn't be competing against each other. It's rare that you have two such performances in one year.
