Just got my BD today. I'll watch it this weekend and let you guys know about the PQ and AQ. I'm gonna crank the downtown shoot out scene hella loud and see if my neighbors call the cops. :D

Yep. Truly a great movie. Great action and great performances from all of the actors; even Val Kilmer. :D

Congrats! I didn't get around to sending my Netflix movies back last Saturday, so no Heat for me. :(

Oh, well. I can just look forward to the shoot out scene for a while longer. :)

The LFE in that shoot out scene is great.

I watched the LA shooting scene only when it came out on Tuesday (it was late and I wasnt in the modd to watch the whole three hours.) anyway the audio in lossless was just short of mind blowing, next to being at a gun range this is the closest you can get to actually hearing true to life gunfire.

The PQ was also very good for a 15 year old movie 4.5 out of 5) Audio 5 out of 5 for the LA shooting scene I watched, can't compare to the rest of the movie though.

For some reason I wish the extras had the actual true to life crime video footage that happened a few years back when those guys robbed the bank and shot up all of LA wearing body length armour protection. Seeing the comparison. But maybe that's me. But I recall watching that live and seeing those officers running into gun stores to "upgrade" their weapons because they were so grossly unmatched in weaponary.

I watched it today, and I gotta say I'm kinda disappointed. The PQ of the BD is better than the DVD, but not a huge difference. Also, while the colors of the BD are richer, the DVD is noticeably brighter, so you end up missing out on a lot of the extra detail, due to the BD being so dark. On the plus side, they seem to have cleaned up the print, because I noticed that in the scene near the beginning where DeNiro is talking to John Voight about the armored car job, there was a hair or something at the bottom right of the screen. You could see it in Voight's suit. This hair was gone on the BD.

I would say the audio is more of an improvement over the DVD than the PQ. I wouldn't call it oustanding, but there was a noticeable difference in the impact of the guns in the downtown shootout scene.

All in all, it's a pretty good disc, but not the big upgrade I was expecting.
