Headphones with BASS

Hey guys,

Apologies if this post belongs elsewhere.

For the past couple years I've been using Audio Techina ATH-ANC7B headphones, however recently they've irreparably broken. I listen to a lot of heavy bass music (mostly dance), so I'm looking to replace them with something that's got a bit of kick. I've heard good things about Beats™ by Dr. Dre™ Studio™ High Definition Powered Isolation Headphones- £279, however don't know how much of that is marketing hype. What would you guys recommend for something with great sound quality that's got a mean bass? For the most part i'll be listening from an iPhone and am looking to spend up to £300 total.

Appreciate any advice you guys could give.

Being that the beats are markted by Monster Cable, then I'd say it's got a lot of hype.

Seriously, I have no life.
I just got a pair of Pioneer SE-CL20U in-ear plugs and while I normally use my Koss PortaPro if/when I need phones (not often, since my Walkman broke and I don't usually like wearing phones), I was very surprised by the sound of these. When I first plugged them in, I tried listening to something in iTunes but even with the equalizer, it sounded like dog crap. I could swear I set it up so it saved everything as .wav or FLAC files but apparently, I need to check into that. I listened to some YouTube and it was a lot better, so I used my Dell Media Direct, which synchs to my music server with .wav files. The highs were good. Better than many plug-style phones and I refuse to use ear buds with the little foam pads. I never liked them and even with the clips, I won't use them. These, I like. The bass was far better than I expected and it actually provides a bit of a sense of impact. It's not like a kick drum hitting you in the chest, but for plug-style phones, it was deep, smooth and it's actually making me think about getting an iPod.

Granted, I don't listen to Rap or Hip Hop, but the bass was very good. The limiting factor with headphones is excursion and at high volumes, I suspect these will be no different but it was loud enough and I didn't hear any popping.

I've got a friend with the Dr Dre's and IMO they're not garbage but they're still hella overpriced. I second the shures and ATHs found in the second post in this thread...they're a better choice than something which needs batteries to simply WORK.

Though with with that much money you might be able to squeeze in a quality portable amp to really supplement the bass (and general soundstage/quality).

For around which should be less than 300 pounds you can pick up an Ibasso D2+ for ~170 dollars

AFAIK, even with shipping or different prices out where you are, you should be able to keep it under the 300 pounds.
