Hi, I am planning on creating a nice setup that will support stereo headphones as well as surround speakers.
What I wanted to know is if it is recommended to have a dedicated DAC hooked via SDPIF, USB, or Firewire to a PC and headphone amplifier for headphone listening instead of using a surround receiver like the Onkyo TX-SR505 through the laptop to the receiver's Digital In and using the receiver's headphone connectivity.
It would be more cost efficient to be able to use the same equipment for loudspeakers in a 5.1 or 5.2 configuration and headphone listening, but are there any downsides to this method?
