Just out of curiousity. If you're a heavy user, post the headphones you use.

I use Sennheiser HD590s at home and Etymotic ER-6 on the road.

Ask the wife for a set - great for bday or xmas! Actually works well with DTS 5.1 movies.

My only reference headphone right now is the Etymotic ER-4S, both for home use and for on the road.

I am thinking about buying a pair of the new Sony SA5000 series headphone. But that pair is expensive, over $400 new.

Koss Pro 4AA. At almost a pound and a half (21 oz.) these things are heavy, but I have never heard any other headphones get the same amount of bass and isolation these babies do.

Are they anything like the Koss Pro 3AAs? My pair was extremely bright, to the extent that they gave me headaches until I became accustomed to them. They did sound decent (the Pro 3AAs) for being so inexpensive though.

I've never listened to the 3AAs so I can't compare. (Although the 3AA weigh half as much.) I don't find the Pro 4AAs are overly bright, but that could just be me and the consequence of listening to Black Sabbath at full volume for over 30 years. :D

As with any speaker product, I'd simply suggest giving them an audition.

I too use the Sennheiser HD590's and I love them.

"Feels like I'm wearing...nothing at all!" (As Flanders once said)

Very comfortable and sounds great. When I first starting using them they
sounded kind of bright...but either my brain adjusted or they broke in...whichever you believe and now they just sound awesome.

What's better I got them for half-price ($110) from Tweeter because they were an open box item.

I usually only use them late at night when the wife and kids are asleep.
If you want to give them a work-out check out Pat Metheny's "The Way Up"
CD if you like that kind of music. It sounds unbelievable through good cans.

I use a Sony MDR-CD3000(modified for sound) for most electronic, pop and rock music. I use an AKG K501(modified for sound) for most classical, jazz and very high quality recordings. I use a Sony MDR-7506 for monitoring purposes.

Each headphone chosen is the absolute best for my preferences based on the headphones I have tried to this date. I am considering the AKG K1000 to replace the modified AKG K501(The K1000 may sound slightly better on some material), but at the price point and considering the close proximity of sound quality between the two models, it is not a compelling purchase to me at this moment.

I've been using the etymotic ER-4P's for about a year and love them. I have the Grado SR-125's for the times when I want to hear what's going on around me.

Sennheiser HD 280

I use the Sennheiser HD280 Pro's. When I'm at work and someone talks to me, they have to slap me before I see them and take off my headphones because they're that isolated. I haven't owned a lot of pairs, but these are the first phones I'd say sound good enough to compare to speakers. It was teh price however that makes me love them the most.
