HDTV Set top Box Settings

I have a LCD HDTV and a Verizon HDTV set top box. On the set top box it has output settings for the standard 480 i/p, 720 i/p & 1080i. My TV supports 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i . Its Native Resolution is 1366 x 768 which I believe is 720 range. If I understand this correctly my TV will display the picture in the best quality at 720 even though it will support
1080i. So should I set the output on the set top box to always do 720 in order to get the best picture quality of the TV? It is set for 1080i now. IF so will I lose or gain anything by seting it to 720 instead of 1080i ?

It sounds like you've got a pretty good handle on the situation.

As you note, it's generally "best" if the output is set to your TV's native resolution, butm, in answer to the question you pose in the last line of your post, why not try it both ways and see for yourself?

For whatever reason, I have found that with Comcast HD boxes 1080i seems to look best regardless of what resolution the TV is. The Verizon box may be different. As markw said, the only way to tell is to try it both ways and see what looks best.
