Can I run the main cable line in too a 4 way splitter (5-1100mhz) or do I have to run main line to a 2 way splitter then to another splitter.

Off the 2 way One to the HDTV and the other to the other splitter Will this help or is just the 4 way fine.

Every leg of a splitter attenuates the signal slightly. Each leg is usually marked with a number that says how much signal will be lost; eg it might say -7 dB on one leg and -3 dB on another. The suggestion to use 2 splitters was probably to keep the loss at a minimum but without knowing exactly what splitter(s) you intend to use, it is hard to say whether it is best to use one 4 way or 3 two ways - it all depends on the specs of the splitters.

If you go online and into decent electronics stores you can usually pick up amplified splitters that have controls to allow you to adjust how much gain each line gets as necessary.

They cost a good deal more than the simple splitters, but may provide you with much better results. Cable can be tricky as to much signal or to little signal are both bad things. Plus, it could just be the display which isn't happy about something. ;)

I use a 8 way active splitter and am happy with my results to this point.
