Hey all, noob nere, looking for some advice. I'm interested in either the Sony 51ws520 or the JVC AV56P575. I know one of them is a 56 and the other is a 51, I can reconfigure the room to use the 56, the 51 can go in as it is now. We'll be getting Dish Network in a few weeks so I'ld like to pick up the TV relatively soon. Anyone here have one of these?? I've seen the Sony in person, up close it was kinda grainy/blocky but I'm sure it was due to the distance and the connection it was hooked up too. I haven't seen the JVC in person. I wanted something that handled 720p for the next gen HD-DVDs. What are your thoughts on 720p vs 1080i video?? I have a 32 inch flat tube SD-TV now with digital cable and to me that looks good, I want the best TV for my money and something that will handle a few years of use.

Sony no longer seems to be at the top of the game, especially in projection TVs; I've really been impressed with the picture quality I've seen on the Yamahas.

Picking a tv ...

Hi,

I am also looking into TV's. I was considering the Samsung HL-P5085W
But for the price you listed two great deals I am going to view the picture quality of them this weekend that is always the best way for me to make a decision.

Sony

I just got the Sony KDP-57WS655 and am very happy with it. Great picture, plenty of inputs (only one HDMI  ), cable-card & tunners, inputs can be labbled & skiped. Has a card reader but only Sony memory sticks, got lucky as the only other Sony product I own is a Cyber Shot. I was looking at the model you were but moved to the model above it because the screen was a little better; less glare.

Did quite a bit of research, was set on Plasma or DLP but went with this one after considering everything, it was best for me. The reviews on this set have been very good, it and the Hitachi were the top rated where I looked. As far as the size goes I first had the 51" model, used it for a week and traded it in for the 57" model; kind of like horsepower, guns and money - you just can not have too much! :D

I've got the horse power part covered with my Camaro. ;)

I went with the Sony over the JVC. Name recognition I suppose, $1399 shipped. I'll post before and after pics with specs. :D
