This may sound like a stupid question, but here goes: If I run my HDMI cable from the cable box to the receiver and then to the TV, does the receiver have to be "on" every time I watch TV? I'm still waiting for my receiver to be delivered, but I'm dying to know the answer. Thanks.

Yes, the receiver will have to be on. Further, you will have to select the HDMI input as the source too.
