Well my friends the search is over.....

I finally bought a flat panel TV. Samsung LNT5271F. Now the question is????
I am going to run a DVD player and (Directv HD DVR:HR20 or HR21). Do I run one HDMI from the DVR to the TV for video and one HDMI from the DVD to the TV for video. OR Do I run one HDMI each to the receiver Yamaha RXV1700 from the DVR and the DVD as input for sound and video and then one HDMI out to monitor (TV). What will be the best way. What about optical for sound? Is everything through HDMI?

Need help

Nice tv, let us know your impressions of it after you get used to it. I dont have a dvr, just an antenna for OTA hdtv. That I run directly to the tv, then I use the optical output from the tv to pipe sound into my avr. Everything else I run through the avr, via hdmi if its got it, and I have just the one hdmi interconnect from the avr to the tv.

The new way to do this is to run everything via HDMI from the devices (DVR/DVD) to the receiver, then one HDMI out from the receiver to the TV.

There's no reason NOT to do it this way really.

Don't forget to not get suckered into a bunch of overpriced Monster cables.

Thanks for the info. I will run both devices (DVR and DVD) to the AVR and I will then send the out from the AVR to the TV for video.

I have a similar setup and connected the DishNetwork HD 722 DVR to Marantz with HDMI. Also Connect the Panasonic DMP-BD30K DVD to Marantz with HDMI. Then a single HDMI from the Marantz AVR to the Vizio LCD. Picture and Sound quality is awesome and the control and switching is simple and clean.
