:confused:Just a quick question, and I apologize ahead of time if this has been asked already, but I"m new here.

My buddy has a reciever that has 4 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output. Is it necessary for him to use an Optical cable along with his HDMI cable with his blu-ray player?

I wasn't sure because the HDMI cable already carries the sound to his reciever, correct?

Any help would be awesome! Thanx!

It would really help to know what model receiver he has. There are some entry level models that do not carry the audio and it will be necessary to use the optical as well. All mid level and up will carry both audio and video.

Assuming the receiver supports audio over HDMI (which not all do, although I think that just about all the units I've seen that had four inputs also supported HDMI audio), the optical cable is unnecessary. With some sources, it wouldn't matter which you decided to use for audio, but HDMI is the preferred path for audio from Blu-ray if the receiver supports it.
