hdmi vs dvi

Is there a big difference between a hdmi to hdmi vs dvi to hdmi hook up ? Sci atl cable box, one has dvi the other has hdmi but also dvr which I wasnt looking for. thanks

No difference in video quality both are digital. However, HDMI has the ability to carry digital sound signal as well. It all depends on your components and how your want to hook them up to best utilize your system.

If you're using a Scientific Atlanta box HDMI vs. DVI doesn't really matter at all since they have HDMI bugs and can't pass audio over HDMI in my experience. Go for whichever box has the features you want.

I have a DVI connection between the Motorola cable box and my Sony Plasma and HD programing looks great.

HDMI and DVI are the exact same thing. They are physically compatible. They are the same port except DVI does not have audio.
