I just built a computer and used a dvi to hdmi cable provide video to a 26" sony lcd tv. That works great.
Then I used a patch cord from the onboard sound to the hdmi audio input jacks on the tv.
But I don't have any sound....UNLESS, I unplug the video and then the sound comes through clear. Plug the hdmi video cable back in, and then I lose the sound again.
Anyone ever seen this? Thanks so much.

Which model Sony TV is it so we can help. Also was video card and OS are you running on your computer?

You may need to go into the menu of the TV and tell it the HDMI input you are using for video is video only and to use the audio inputs for sound.

Thank you so much.

The tv is a Sony KDL-26M4000
The video card is a XFX PVT95GYDQ3 GeForce 9500 GT 512MB running on windows xp pro.

I've been through the tv menu like you said and I couldn't find that option... doesn't mean it's not there though. I will continue to look.

Hi. I can't find a menu setting in the owner's manual for the TV, either.

Just to double check, you have the HDMI cable plugged into either the HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 input on the back of the TV, and you have the audio plugged into the two RCA inputs directly underneath the HDMI 2 input?

Have you tried both HDMI inputs (1 and 2)? According to the manual, it shouldn't matter - but maybe the HDMI 2 jack is associated with those analog audio inputs.

yeah I have the audio plugged into the jacks right under hdmi 2. I've tried plugging the video into hdmi 1 and it doesnt make any difference, except I will get sound as long as I don't have the video input set on the tv to the same port that the video is actually hooked to. I can get sound or video, but not both.

I don't know if it would make any difference, but I'd suggest turning the HDMI Control off to see if that helps.

You could also try using a lower resolution setting on the PC video going into the HDMI input, just in case that is messing up the HDMI connection somehow.

I'm just throwing out ideas here. I can't find anything in the manual that explains this.

I think you are right on with the video coming out of the puter. I think it's the video card. I hooked the same tv up to my older system with a 8800 gtx and it works just fine and I can use any audio source I want. I'm going to try another video card. I'll come back and post when I get it done.

Just to Clarify..
I did swap video cards... Installed a Msi 8800gts in place of the xfx 9500 and it now works perfectly.
Thanks for the help!
