Does the TV have a DVI port? If it doesn't have a DVI port you will have to use component or upgrade to a different television.

Since you would have to convert to HDMI and lose any of the benefits, it wouldn't make any sense to convert vs just using component. What does the receiver have to do with it? I don't think there are any receivers that will transcode HDMI to component.

Does your TV have DVI? If it has DVI all you would need is a HDMI to DVI cable.

There is an Oppo upconverting DVD player that can upconvert over component video.

DVI is HDMI without audio; the connectors are different, but you can get adapters easily. Most of the upscaling players only upscale via HDMI, but I think there are a few that will do it over component, but not many AFAIK.
