hello everybody,

I have been searching internet but w/o success, so I have a question:

Is there any adapter to convert HDMI output to separate DVI-D and coaxial S/PDIF? I don't mean any of the big boxes for $100+. I know there exists HDMI to DVI-D piece for few dollars and I wonder if the audio part can be also used...

Thanx

I haven't seen anything cheap that will do it. What exactly are you trying to connect? To a receiver that doesn't have HDMI?

The reason you can get HDMI-DVI adapters for so cheap is because there are no electronics or conversion involved. DVI is essentially the same as HDMI without audio. All those adapters do is change the physical plug so a DVI cable can be used. If you want to get audio from the HDMI output then you need some sort of electronics, hence the boxes you mention. That is the only way you will get what you want. The audio output is part of the HDMI stream and cannot be split out with a simple passive adapter.

You can buy an HDMI/DVI cable at:

and you need to have a coaxial (or optical) audio cable for sound.
