The set-up that I have is the following:
RX-v2600
PT-AE900U
OPPO DV-970HD

I am unable to get the receiver to pick up a DD or DTS signal using the HDMO cable. I hooked up a digital optical cable and it works fine. It is possible to transmit DD using HDMI right?

Thanks for any help.

yes hdmi carries digital sound the only problem i have heard of is sometimes with different types of hdmi (1.1,1.2) the video will be fine and sound will not work, i am not sure what all your exuipment is but im guessing that is the problem, i would just run the optical as well even tho i kinda kills the one cable solution thing

FWIW, my Dish receiver won't pass the DD audio through the HDMI to the receiver; hafta use the optical. Same with my Denon DVD player.

HDMI is capabable of carrying both audio and video but that does not necessarily mean that the manufacturer of the device has implemented that capability. This is yet another reason IMO that HDMI is still not ready for the mainstream. The idea of using one single cable for both audio and video has yet to be realized and I suspect it won't be until HDMI 1.3 is finalized and all device manufacturers get on board with it - probably 5 years from now.
