I read in a post that the HDMI standard may change in a year or so. If that is true ,how should that change affect our decision to purchace a new receiver?

Digital Protection Corp LLP is currently taking comments for version 9 of the HDCP standards and codes. It is anybodies guess how much further trouble this will cause.

If a pair of shoes last 5 years and can be resoled, you don't sell as many shoes.
Sneakers go pretty fast, so you buy more:D
You don't sell enough hi fi, change the standards and sell it again:D

Exactly the reason I am not updating my receiver to buy into the HDMI game.Component video with separate audio is just fine.

I tell you, since jumping on board with this whole HDMI mess I am having a devil of a time getting all my components to talk to each other (especially between say HDMI 1.0 and current spec), and even when you do get things to work properly the interface is so convoluted it takes an entire day and an 18 pack of beer just to iron out. Maybe next time I'll leave out the beer.
Nah.

The problem with that idea is that as of now new HD deices are required to downgrade to 480i at their analog outputs including component video. The Unsatisfactory Hollywood Crowd have made sure you can only transmit HD signals via HDMI.
