I am looking to purchase a sony 60" LCD rear projector. The XBR version has DVI-HDTV inputs and the KDF-60XS955 has HDMI inputs....which of the two is better for the future?

Thanks!

I am having the same problem. I have the Denon 3910 with HDMI and DVI outputs and the Denon 3805. Now, i am shopping for an LCD. After a big deal of searching on the net and technical specs of the sets, i decided to go for the HDMI. It is said to be a future proof connection. Technically, both connections are the same concerning Video signals, HDMI is able to transfer Audio signals including DVD Audio and SACD.

Finally it depends on how you will be using your display. DVI is prefered by the PC users.

Nothing is future proof. :)

However, HDMI is quickly replacing DVI because (supposedly) it will eventually support all the audio formats as well and can handle the copy-protection so fiercely desired by Hollywood.

Righth now, with the appropriate adapter, they are basically interchangeable for digital video - so don't sweat it.

I'm not sure if PC video cards are incentivized to ever switch to HDMI.

In my opinion, HDMI is a ridiculous connector. it has almost no strain relief (at the connector itself) and there is no way to secure it from falling off. It is flawed by design and now seems to be the dominent force in digital video for reasons that will remain unknown I suppose.

I thought I was the only one who had HDMI plug issues!

That has been a big problem with me, I use a upscaling DVD player that has an HDMI connector to my HDTV and it will not stay connected. Have a nice pretty PureDirect cable with a tech-flex sheath that makes it stiff and it falls out when I roll my RPTV away from the wall. What were they thinking, they did this when RCA's became a standard, or sub-standard! Maybe they will come up with a clip on the female end to hold it in place?

Does ANY device use the Audio capabilities of this Cable yet? I still have to use a digital audio with my HDMI connection.

Clint, I agree.

Has anyone come up with a homemade solution to securing the HDMI cable in place or seen any products on the market?

Zip ties are a custom installers best friend. The perfect way to deal with strain relief issues.

I am sure we will see several different HDMI connectors at some point down the road, just as we now have ... what... 3 different USB connectors?

None of which 'lock' in place.

It makes no sense that they don't have any 'locking' capability as HDMI is not something you plug and unplug all the time, but the success of other plug-type connectors is typical of the industry. There is no reason to use RCA over BNC connectors, but nonetheless, RCA is the standard and most people wonder what a BNC connector even is.

I personally don't care, I've got a good couple of hundred zip ties at my disposal.
