HDMI issues with Denon 2807

Hello and thanks for your comments.........

I have been bashing my head against the wall with HDMI issues.... I know I am not alone and yes it is pretty silly that supposedly an "industry standard" connection would have such poor support among manufacturers....

However, I have had the following results....

1 - Connecting Sony CX995V (400 DVD upconverting mega changer) via HDMI I get both Video and audio..... hurrah! However, I think the video PQ is not as good as my Oppo 971.

2- Connecting HD-Tivo (HR10-250) via HDMI I get video, but NO Audio! I have had DTV send me 4 replacement Tivo's and they all do exactly the same thing!

3- Connecting Toshiba HD-DVD player via HDMI... now it really get weird.

A- With no disc in the player, the player boots and I get the NO DISC screen and can access the setup menu's IF I have selected 1080i. If I select 480p or 720p I get no video image at all. If I open the menu under 1080i and then switch resolutions the video goes away...
B-Then if I place an HD DVD in the tray and close the player loads and the front panel reads HDDV D and that is exactly where the player stays... most of the time pushing any button on the remote or the player does nothing (occasionally you can access the open/close button) and you have to hold the power button down for 10 seconds to power down the player. I have repeated this process with all 4 HDDVD's that I currently have.
C-If I boot the player (after one of the hard re-sets) with the DVD in the player and the HDMI connected directly to my projector (instead of through the Denon 2807) then I get video.:( Obviously no audio as the signal is going straight to the projector.

Perhaps I should mention that via Component and Toslink or Coax audio the player is superb! (but who wants to use a less capable connection?!?)

The problem is I am not sure if the problem is Denon's fault, Tivo's fault, Toshiba's fault, or a little bit of fault spread around to all of them! The fact that at least the Sony 995 works gives me hope that it is not ALL Denon's fault........ but I am still far from a happy camper!

It sounds like Tivo has not upgraded their firmware to accept audio.

Did you try a different HDMI cable to make sure the one you are using is ok? There's a lot of pins that could be defective. Just a thought.

I've read a lot of people having major issues with HD cable boxes and HDMI (Time Warner 8300HD is one that comes to mind). I've also read where the new Toshiba HD DVD players have had some rebooting issues, and act like pc's with a virus. The Sound and Vision article on the Toshiba player mentioned that start up time was horrific.

My gut tells me it's probably not your Denon receiver. A receiver is simply a switching device, which continues a signal from one component to another.
