Hdmi Help!!??

I need your guys help....I am either going to get Yamaha RX-V463 or the Denon AVR788 (plz dont sugges others as its either these two)....I only want to run one HDMI cable to my TV...I have 2 HDMI inputs and 1 RCA and 1 component inpute...will either of these recievers pass video on to my tv while letting me listen to the audio in surround or on my tv?? please help as this HDMI has got me confused....

I looked in the RX-V463 manual, and it can either process audio over HDMI or pass it on. So, the 463 will allow you to listen to the audio through the receiver or through the TV.

I'm off to look up the Denon...

the guy at bestbuy (Ihave to get it at bestbuy or circuitcity for 500 or less as I have cards for both) told me I would need to run a toslink back from my tv to the reciever to get surround and I was like...WTF is the point of HDMI then?!??

The Denon AVR-788 will process the HDMI audio or pass it on to the TV, as well.

So, both receivers will do it. You do have to go through a menu at either receiver, though, to switch between listening to HDMI audio on the receiver and listening to it on the TV.

hmmm so now it comes down to which is better? Now that I know the yamaha with take the audio fromt he HDMI I am siding with that.

No problem!

Now, the guy at BB is right about something. If your TV is the source of the sound (instead of a DVD player or such), then you do have to feed a cable from the TV to the receiver. Plugging an HDMI cable into the output on the receiver and then into the input on the TV will pass audio from the receiver to the TV but not in the other direction (from TV to receiver).

If you are only using your TV as a monitor (so you have all of your sources - like a cable box or satellite box, DVD player, and so on plugged into your receiver), then you would only need the one HDMI cable.

Is that clear, or more confusing?

No I am only using my tv as a monitor and speakers (sometimes)....so I think he didnt know what he was talking about.

I think im going to go with the Onkyo TX-SR606-S as it upconverts everthing and is also able to seperate audio streams

That's a nice receiver, or so I've read. There's a thread here from the past week or so where people discuss if that receiver can be beat for the price.
