First time poster here..... :)

I'm planning to upgrade my old Dennon AV receiver and move into the world of seperates. I'm considering this:

The one thing that's got me "spooked" is the lack of HDMI/DVI input. I have a Pioneer 50" HD plasma with DVI input. My set-top cable box is hi-def and has HDMI output. With the world seemingly moving away from component video cables towards HDMI, I think i might want to wait before sinking $3k into a pre-amp that doesn't offer HDMI/DVI connections. What do you think?

Anyone know of another preamp I should consider that offers HDMI video switching and upconversion?

Another option might be the Outlaw 990. It has HDMI and DVI switching (though no upconversion to the formats, only switching). However, I do believe it upconverts to component video (not 100% on this). It's not as pretty as Rotel, but Outlaw is known for making awesome performing products.

Another option might be purchasing a Denon AVR-4806 or Yamaha RX-V4600 reciever and using it as a premp. These are both in your budget and offer HDMI connectivity. I'm not sure about upconversion on these either...sorry. But, there are definitely lots of options out there.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I took a quick look into the Outlaw 990 & here's what I found:
  • 2 DVI Inputs, 1 DVI output
  • It does support DVI switching
  • Composite & S-Video signals are upconverted to component
  • component is NOT upconverted to the high-bandwith outputs

I'm going to spend a little more time looking into that one!
