I am using the supplied HDMI cable that came with my Direct TV receiver can I improve my picture by spending more on a different one?

How long is the run? What is wrong with the picture?
Even if you decide to buy another cable, you don't need an expensive one. monoprice.com or Bluejeans cables are great.

Only 4' picture is good just thought I could improve it. Will the Bluejeans cable be better then the stock one or does it really not matter with HDMI at a short distance?

There are alot of cables out there that may or may not improve your picture, however until you are truely viewing a 1080p picture the difference would be unnoticeable to the eye unless you had two tvs side by side.

Yep, 4ft is not far to send the signal, even at the high 1080p. I doubt you will benefit from another cable from those companies.

FWIW I just ordered a bunch of cables from monoprice.com. Wow, these are some hefty shielded HDMI cables! The subwoofer cable and banana plugs aren't too bad either. Shipping was a bit slow, but all in all it seemed to be a good value.

You are back:D
Shipping speeds up with express shipment:D
It looks like they shipped it to Ontario, Canada by mistake after looking at the tracking. The Columbus, Oh must have looked like On or something. No big deal. I'm one of the few with patience in this world. ;)

I recieved all my cable from Mono in 3 days which was impressive enough for me.

The HDMI that comes with the DT HD box is the cheapest looking HDMI I have ever seen; it looks like it is 18 AWG. That being said; I am using it and it seems fine.

Actually, as far as audio cable goes, the lower the gauge, the thicker the wire. If you have 18 awg wire, it's the thickest HDMI cable ever produced.

Maybe he meant the whole cable on the outside is about 18ga, I bet.:D

What kind of a signal goes through an HDMI cable? Is it the same as an RCA or S-Video or is it like 1's and 2's or something like that? This will help me determine if a better quality cable will improve or change my picture and sound.

It is a digital video and audio signals that go through in the many pairs of cable inside the HDMI jacket. While the digital is talked as 0s and 1s, it is more than that, it is like a square wave and the timing of the wave rises and falls that carry the 0 or 1 info and how many since a positive rise can last long enough to measure more than one bit.

OK all that being said does the 0's and 1's get better with a upgraded cable?

Only over long distance and when the amount of data you want to pass is high:D Longer distances you want thicker wire for less loss.
