HDMI Cable vs Optical Cable

Do you know if there is any difference in the sound coming over the HDMI cable vs the Optical cable? Does the sound from the HDMI cable sound better than the sound from the Optical cable? Or, do they both sound the same?

The sound is identical, unless you have an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player with HDMI v1.3 and you are playing one of the new lossless formats like Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD. If you're not doing that, and I can almost guarantee that you aren't (there are no HDMI 1.3 receivers available) then there is no difference.

No, optical is the same. "optical is optimal" does roll off the tongue nicely however and maybe that was what you were trying to convey.
