hdmi cable vs. component cable

am i going to get a better picture if i run hdmi cables from my dvd player into my yamaha rx-v2700 or will i get the same performance running component cables and let the 2700 upConvert the signal to hdmi?

In theroy HDMI is better.

But in the real world so much depends on the individual DVD player and HDTV.
There are quite few HDTVs that do not do a good job of upscalling video, if yours is one of those then a good upscalling DVD with HDMI may do the trick for you. The only way to find out is to try and see which gives you the best picture. John
