i heard some receivers allow you to watch tv without having to turn on the receiver. I believe its call hdmi bypass? Yamaha makes one that does this but are there others that do it? is it hard to hook up? any info you can give me on this would be a big help...................Thanks

as side note. if this is true it will help keep me sane because i wont have to explain to my wife how to turn on the system to watch tv 1000 times LOL

Yes, newer recievers do allow such function and it is also called hdmi Passthrough or officially HDMI CEC - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#CEC

Trade names differ for each manufactures - wiki link above should help you.
Also keep in mind your TV must support this as well and also HDMI Passthrough consumes much more power than receiver stand-by
