HDMI Audio ONLY please!

Hi all, well it's endless isn't it but i guess that's half the fun.

The Latest issue i have yet to solve is that i want to send ONLY HDMI audio out of my Yamaha RX-V861 Receiver. Here 's how i have it set up.

PS3 HDMI to Receiver DVD input (There are only 2 HDMI inputs, DVD & DTV)

PS3 Composite (RCA) Video to Toshiba Portable DVD AV input

Receiver HDMI output to Optoma H31 Projector HDMI/DVI input

Here's why. I would like to listen to music on my ps3 via HDMI and use the Toshiba as a display device when doing so, the reason for this is i do not want to use the projector unless i am watching movies or playing games. Everything works fantastic while the projector is on and if i select Component Video in the PS3 settings it sends the video to the Portable DVD player, great. Only issue is when i turn off the projector i loose HDMI audio, it is as if the receiver will not send audio through the HDMI if it doesn't detect a dispaly devise also.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

What is the make/model of your receiver?

Why not just run an optical cable to the receiver for audio when the projector is off? It seems a bit strange that there is no HDMI audio when the display is turned off. My system does not behave this way. When I turn off the TV to switch to the projector the audio hiccups briefly and then keeps going.

I have solv-ed the mystery!

Oh, how simple things are sometimes!

Found out that if i don't just turn off the projector but also actually pull out the HDMI/DVI cable from the back of it, Voila! HDMI audio only.

This will save my lamp life so much.
