hi

i am going to buy a new home cinema set, including Sony DAV-DZ230 all in one kit with standard DVD playback and Sony VPLAW10 projector.

As i have found out, this setup can upscale standard dvds to 720p resolution, using hdmi interface. What i want to ask is, whether the upscale is still possible if the dvds are backed up using dvdshrink, since hdmi cabling incorporates copy protection (HDCP).

Does hdcp refer only to HD media (HDDVD and blu ray) or to any DVD?

thank you in advance

Actually it will be just the opposite, as pressed DVDs, when run through a HDCP device will only upconvert through HDMI.
Your backed up DVDs will even upscale through component (if your player supports upscaling through component).

So to answer your question, your backed up DVDs will upconvert perfectly fine through HDMI.

Hope that helps.;):)
