so my friend and i were having a discussion about how he was going to set up his tv in his room... i is going to hang it on the wall but does not want anything around it or under it so he is going to run his cable through the wall to a table to is going to set his dvd player cable box ect on. so i told him he might as well do hdmi since it is going to give him the best resolution (even though he might have to get a higher grade cable for the distance) and everything but he was thinking about doing component and he was thinking that component could go up to 1080 but i thought 720 so i am wondering if it would make more sense to get a long component cable and optical audio and run that or get an hdmi and run that (he was also thinking of just wiring his own hdmi which i have no idea how that actually works) so any feedback would be great!
thanks

Component does 1080p, but most players will not ouput 1080p over component either native or upscaled. If 1080i/720p is good enough for him, then component is fine. I am in the same situation with my dad right now - he is putting the TV over the fireplace and doesn't want any visible cables, but he wants to make use of the 1080p capability of the TV, so HDMI it is. Plus, one HDMI to the set is easier to run than component + audio.

Correct sir. It's all this copyright nonsense.
