Hi all,

I have a Panasonic plasma TV that doesn't have an HDMI 1.3a input but my receiver and blu ray player have it, does this mean that deep color won't transfer to my TV? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, Rick!

Which version of HDMI does your TV have? If it has 1.3, then you're set. The "a" part of "1.3a" doesn't matter in this case.

Also, which Panasonic do you have?

Panasonic plasma

The TV is a 42 inch Panasonic TH-42PZ700U. The funny thing is the manual doesn't tell you what HDMI inputs it has accept class "A".

Per this discussion on Amazon, Panasonic customer service stated that:
Thank you for your inquiry. The TH42PZ700 is HDMI version 1.3. Thank you for your interest in Panasonic products.
I will look a bit more, but if it is 1.3, then you're set for deep color.

Always happy to help if I can!

You could always e-mail Panasonic's customer service to verify that it can support deep color, just to be sure.

A more important question would be do you have any content that supports deep color? BD movies for example don't support it.

nope

Actually, I thought it converted existing data but now I understand that I would have to buy media supporting it. I had just started building a home theater and bought a Sony DN1000 and planning on getting a PS3 slim for the Blu Ray. Just want to get the best picture possible...or start building toward that.

Crazy stuff--seems like they're always announcing new tech with nothing to utilize it. Can you believe they've already announced the HDMI 1.4 spec? Just when we're starting to get used to having 1.3 around...

I'm only aware of some video cameras that can record and create content w/ deep color. But mostly it just seems like another gimmick to confuse & entise consumers into buying that which they don't need.

Thankfully, the 1.4 spec doesn't look like anything too special.

I'm waiting for HDMI 2.0 - rumored that it will sense when you're hungry|thirsty and cue the popcorn popper interface and dispense beverages automatically. ;)
