I have an HDMI 1.3 compatible TV (Samsung LNT5265F 52" 1080p LCD HDTV)
and I want to get an HDMI 1.3 blu-ray DVD player (Samsung BD-P1200 Blu-Ray Disc Player).

I currently have the Sony STR-DA5200ES - AV receiver - 7.1 channel which is only 1.2a HDMI compatible.

The receiver is HDMI switching and I have my HDMI cables going through it. My question is will my receiver "downgrade" the signal going through it or should I connect the HDMI directly from the DVD player to the TV? Also, do I need a special 1.3 HDMI cable?

Kind of stinks because I specifically bought this receiver for the HDMI switching and now I can't use it...

Is there a specific problem you are having or are you just assuming things won't work because the devices support different versions of HDMI?

There shouldn't be any problems unless you need a specific feature only enabled in 1.3.

Second that, and you don't need any "special" HDMI cable for 1.3.:)

Well actually the problem I'm anticipating is that I won't be able to take advantage of the new features that HDMI 1.3 now supports such as:

Will going through the Sony receiver cripple the new features between the TV and DVD player, again which are HDMI 1.3 or is the receiver just a "pass through"?

This really stinks, but you are probably correct, using your reciever to switch the BDP will loose the deep color(which is probably the one you care about) and those other features unique to ver 1.3. I guess this is one of the problems with have new versons of a transport medium.

With that being said, I'm sure it will still look and sound good, and you should not weigh your decision solely on getting hdmi 1.3.

You will not miss anything by using your receiver. There are no sources on the market that utilize deep color and your receiver will handle the new audio codecs just fine through the external inputs. Because of Advance Content all the BD and HD DVD players have to decode the audio in the player and not the receiver. Don't worry about the different versions of HDMI and hook everything up to your receiver and you will be just fine for a long time.

I would skip the Samsung player and wait for the new Sony S300 or the Panasonic BD-10A both of which will be around $500.

This is a little off the main, but related to HDMI 1.3. I am looking at the new Infocus IN82, which supports Deep Color. If I use my component connection, I assume I will not get the full color out of my projector? Is this "Deep Color" supposed to make that much of a difference? I think that is what RP682 is worried about also. If it makes a difference, why not try to suck every last bit of performance from your system. If it doesn't, ya, who cares. Thanks.
