What one would be better for me i have a toshiba 42lx196 1080p lcd tv?
HDDVD came out really strong, with great looking and sounding titles. Blu Ray has the most studio support and is going to get stronger. New Blu Ray titles are looking great and will continue to improve. The PS3 juggernaut will entice studios to release more titles.
If you can afford to spend the money for the Samsung BD player, do it. A firmware update is coming this month to fix some issues. FS and Best Buy have open box Samsungs in mint conditions, that you can bargain. My mechanic (also friend) bought the Samsung open box for $799 at FS. They wouldn't let it go for less than $899. But he bought Tears of the Sun, and Underworld Evolution so they let him have it. It looks brand new. We set it up in his basement, and on his Sanyo Z4, it looks amazing on a 106 screen!
Or, Get the Toshiba HDA1. Affordable and have great titles. HDDVD is the benchmark for now. You can't lose. Both the Samsung and Toshiba upconvert really well so your DVDs will look great as well.
I for one, am going to line up outside Best Buy to get my PS3.
