I'm curious to see how many have taken advantage of the, soon to be phased-out, high definition VHS. The local cable company has final provided me with a set top box that has a funtional IEEE 1394. Though it is useless to plug directly into my TV(Mitsubishi with i-link) I am able to record in full high definition with dolby digital sound onto my JVC HD VCR. I recently recorded Matrix reloaded. Incredible picture and sound. I'm sure with the new DVR's it is only a matter of time until we have the abiliy to record and store large volume of movies in HiDef formate. Back to the question... Is anyone using this type of setup?

There was an article a little while back, saying that the FCC is going to stop all recording of High Def. So better get it while you can.........

This would be good to know! I'll have to go to the FCC webside and confirm. It wouldn't surprize me though. I have felt that someone had made a mistake in letting me have this capability. I'm recording as many worthy movies as possible. It has made it difficult to go back to my DVD's, they(DVD) truely produce an inferior picture quality. Hopefully DVD-HD will be available soon. Anyway, thanks for warning!

After reviewing the news releases on the FCC website, going back to when the FCC mandated that cable/satalite co. must provide functional DVI/IEEE on their set-tops, it would appear that the FCC has no plans to block specific recording. It may be in the fine print or just rumor. I would be curious to hear what other know about this!

It is likely a push from the movie studios. They would stand to lose a great deal of money if consumers were able to record movies from cable in a better format then what the the movie studios could sell.
