Plasma TV “Burn-In”: Fact or Myth?

This bit was interesting:

Attempts by the HD Guru to create “”burn-in”" (uneven phosphor wear) on 2008 and 2009 model year plasma panels by freeze-framing an image for 10 hours and then switching to a white screen have been unsuccessful. No “burn-in” occurred. We also checked out demo plasma HDTVs at retail stores and found no “”burn-in”" on any of the models tested. This is particularly significant since floor models are traditionally set to “showroom” mode (usually listed in the user menu as Dynamic or Vivid) in order to produce maximum brightness.

Thx for that thread...it will help a lot of people to understand about ''burn ins''...with todays plasmas.

While burn-in may not be the issue it was in days of old, image retention is still a valid issue. I've noticed quite a bit of it on my new plasma and I don't have to leave an image up for 10 hours for it to occur - about 10 minutes will do. While it does go away after continuing to run the break in pics it still doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy to see it. What does make me warm and fuzzy is finding out that the images that I've been seeing won't 'burn' in or have long term effects.

Plasma is slowly breaking the burn in stigma I hope. Then maybe more people would buy them and see that they have far superior image quality. Plasma best money spent hands down.
