hd dvd players and true hd and dts hd?

Any player that can decode TrueHD and DTS-HD can pass them at FULL resolution they just pass them already decoded rather than bitstream to be decoded by the receiver. Every player I know of can do TrueHD, only the newer ones can do DTS-HD.

If you would like a player than can pass bitstream, so your receiver decodes the signal, you will need to find a newly released player with HDMI 1.3 and bitstream

Both of these situations will get you the same sound quality, unless one piece of hardware does a better job decoding than another. The only difference is where the decoding is done.

To take advantage of bitstream signals you need a receiver that can decode these formats and is HDMI 1.3. To allow the signal to be decoded in the player you need any version of HDMI or multi-channel analog connections.

OK thx. I have the new pioneer vsx 92. I have the ps3 and now that transformers has come out and now I want a HD dvd player. I also never understood the taking sides, I say just get both formats and dont miss out. I was the same when super audio cd's and dvd audio came out. Do yall suggest any hddvd player or just get the newest one with 1.3 hdmi?

You want one that will do 1080p, not just upscale it. Not all HDDVD will do it.

Every HD DVD player can decode TrueHD as it's in the spec. The Xbox 360 HD DVD player is the only one that can't do 5.1 TrueHD, only 2 channel.

All HD DVD players decode DD TrueHD but none of them decode DTS-HD MA (they do DTS-HD Core only).

As for HDMI, no need for version 1.3... unless you have a new TV, such as a Pioneer Kuro series which can provide the enhanced colors associated with version 1.3.

If you have a TV that can playback in 1080p and 24 frames per second, there are HD DVD players which can transmit accordingly.

If you plan to change your TV, model HD-XA2 is future proof for HDMI and 24fps and provides the best upconversion for standard DVD's.

exactly my question:
I recently bought a sr-875 and sony 300 blu-ray. I can not get the receiver to show any true HD on the display. When playing a blu-ray disc that is DTS- HD or DD-HD it sounds great but it will not show true-Hd on the display? Now it will give you choices of DD-ex 6.1 or thx neutral , and several others.
I have tried almost every thing-HMDI and optical hook ups. So your saying that I am receiving true-HD it just doesnt show it?

The S300 does not decode DD True HD and does not deliver DD True HD in Bitstream via digital connection. The closest you can get is multichannel PCM via HDMI provided the receiver passes through the audio without processing.
