HD-DVD Opinion on CNET

Here's the read.
As a full-time cynic, I have to agree in some respects that it's an excuse for the electronics industry to make an extra buck. You can see it in the big electronics stores. They're stocking the shelves with crap so they can eventually show you how "good" HD-DVD is (as relayed to me by an inside source. Also why I finally had to order my Panasonic on-line.). It will be interesting to see where the format will be in two or three years.

You`ve never been so right! Have a look at this (Blu-ray player). This is ridiculous; as we all know that in a couple of years from now this player will sell for 200$!!

Know what's amazing - 10 years ago when plasmas hit the market, they were nearly impossible to find. Nobody really knew about them and pricing on say, a 50" plasma, was generally in the $10,000 range.

The image did not rival CRT, as it still doesn't, but they sold.

HD discs definitely offer a fair jump forward in video quality. This is mostly rewarded on larger screens, but this is also something that a fair number of people already have. The big deal, IMO, is not just the format war, but that this technology is about 2-3 years overdue. They should have been pushing this to early adopters a few years back so that by now the bugs were worked out and the format war was over.

While I enjoy DVDs on my big screen (front projection), I have stopped buying DVDs and only plan to buy Blu-ray discs as they come out with titles I want. You see, I actually DO want HD in my home. I want the next step up from DVD, and I stopped buying DVDs a couple of years ago in anticipation.

My player?

Well, PS3 will be my first player of choice as it is virtually a guaranteed success and will remain alive, and supported, for many years to come.

Meh - just wait until HVD hits the street.

I already have 9 HD-DVD titles, and I'm more then happy with PQ and SQ.

I'm enjoying 1080p and the new audio HD formats today, thanks to my Sony Ruby, Gennum VXP scaler and HDMI 1.1 pre/pro.

Happy camper here, and really happy with a Toshiba HD-A1 since 1 month already. :D

And I won't even be buying those. I can wait for my movies to include lossless audio before I hand over my money (and early reports say BRD's 1st volley is using recycled SD-DVD audio content). Not a problem except that 1 of my "10 titles that must be out before I buy a new format" (Robocop) is among the early BRDs and likely won't have TrueHD*

*Unless people have lied to me, then I'll be happy to buy.
