HD DVD Firmware update issues??!?!?!

Ok,

I own a Toshiba HD-A35 HD DVD player. I was watching planet earth on HD DVD which I just got for $29 off of Discovery. I was in awe.. it is a beautiful disc.

I then turned it off... and wanted to check my new speaker layout and the sound... so I threw in Bourne Ultimatum... and it would not load...

So I turned off the machine came to the computer and noticed there was a firmware update that came out a month ago.

I have had no problems so I did not know of this update. It is V1.3 firmware update.

I downloaded it... and then bam... it will not turn on... I mean it will turn on ... but only the "welcome" shows on the player. It will not go anywhere else, the set up screen, eject, or even power off--- I have to unplug the player.

I called Toshiba yesterday who had me unplug the player for 5 minutes and do a hard boot... but still same thing. They told me someone would call me back to "discuss my options" and they could not tell me any estimated call back time. What is this... "my options" what the heck are my options... it worked 5 minutes prior to firmware update and then after firmware update... the system goes out!! ARE you kidding me!!!

Anyone else having this issue? Does anyone out there still have their players?

Let me know.

thank you!

The only suggestion I can think of is to download the ISO image of the firmware update from the Toshiba site and burn it to CD.

Then boot the player with the CD in it and it should run the update again. It sounds like the firmware update did not take.

Did you get an "update complete" screen on the player when you did the initial update? You were not using any kind of wireless when you did the update I hope. I have heard of many people having issues with firmware updates over wireless.

Good luck and I would call Toshiba back as well. Who knows when they will stop their support.

Everything worked... the system shutdown... meaning I started the update... noticed that is gave me the "update in progress" message on my TV screen... then I saw the number 1/39... then 2/39... and so on... then I came back upstairs about 5 minutes later and the system was shutdown, the power light was red. So then I turned the system on... it beeped... and the "welcome" message was on the player... my receiver read no HDMI... and the system would not move... (no power on/off, no stop, no eject, etc) so I had to unplug the player just to get it to turn off.

As far as the CD goes... I cannot even get the player to eject.

It just freezes at "welcome" message on the player... and no feed to the receiver or TV. I even changed HDMI cables. But again... it worked 5 minutes b4 the update... when the update was done... the player did not work the same.

Thanks for your insight!

If you flip the door down on the front you will notice a small hole. Get a paper clip and straighten it out. Push it in the hole and it will manually eject the drawer. Then you can put the disk in and boot it. I don't know that this will work but it definately sounds like it went down before the update finished.

I think adk is right, you should try updating it again. By the way, last time I checked the download site I did not see ver 1.3 any more, only the ver 2.0 was available. How did you end up downloading the 1.3? I thought if you did it via the Ethernet port you would not have choices or even know what version you were updating to until the process was complete.

I wouldn't use 2.0 if I were you unless you had to.

Bourne Ultimatum is a combo disc. Clean it (soap and water) first, then see if it will play.
