HD DVD buh-bye...

Not sure if this has been covered, pardon me if it has...

I was told by eyewitnessses that the HD DVD boys pretty much packed up their tents, and bailed on CES early following the news of 2 more major studios going over to the Blu-ray camp. Is this true?

If so, does it signal the end of HD DVD? my brother who lives in Japan (has for nearly 10 years) said HD DVD players are almost non-existent there.

Yes, there are a number of threads on it already in the CD/DVD/ sources forum and some in the movies forum. This was last week. I don't know about them packing up and leaving, but there certainly wasn't a lot on the HD DVD front from what I heard.

Yup, this dead horse has been mercilessly been beat to death on a couple of threads. I read that they packed up and left to strategize their new comeback, while this was happening Toshiba had just done a press release announcing their new ad campaign blitz. Poor guys, talk about being late to the show.
