HD connection question

Hi eveyone,
I'm new to the forum and having a heck of a time trying to find an answer to my HD question (this is my first time posting though :D )

Here it is: I'm looking at getting the new PVR from Starchoice and at the same time jumping into the 21st century with HD tv. The Starchoice receiver only has DVI and Component outputs though. My Philips TV on the otherhand has component and DB15 connections, My question is, is it possible to run a converter between the DVI output to the DB15 input and still watch TV in HD? I haven't really seen any A/V Cables with this combination but my computer came with a DVI to DB15 converter itself.. Would this be the same kind of idea?

I'm hoping someone out there may have run into this before.

Thanks all
Jim

Why don't you want to use the component video cables? They are capable of carrying HD video information. The RB15 input is most likely for an RGB signal from your computer to be input into your TV and is designed to accept that signal. Hopefully someone with more tech savvy than I will come along with your specific answer, but in the meantime, component video cables do carry 1080i signals to those sources that are capable of displaying them.

Hi Boston,
Thanks for the reply. Actually there are a couple of reasons.. My Component inputs are currently being used by the DVD player and the PVR doesn't have any components input itself so I cannot chain them (I know, I'll probably need a new receiver for the additional inputs&outputs  ) and I'm really hoping to use up the currently useless DB15 input. I'm also wondering because only my AV5 (which is the DB15 input) shows 1080i.. Although this may only be a menu setting on the TV itself.

If it helps anyone, I can post a picture of the back of my TV. Here is a link to the PVR that I am looking at getting.

I have seen DVI to DB 15 converters, they are only 10 bucks on overstock.com. Have you called Philips?

No, that will not work.

The DVI connection on the back of the receiver (per the pdf file you linked to) is a DVI-D connector, which means it is only a digital connection.

You will either have to use a DVI-D connector on your TV, which you don't have, or you will need to use the component input.

The component connection is the only one you will be able to utilize. If you don't have enough component inputs, you can pick up a manual component video switcher at Target or Wal-Mart for about 20 or 30 bucks. They aren't ir controlled, but cost a lot less than a new A/V receiver w/component video switching on it.
