Does anybody know where I could find a download of a hd audio recording something with a sample rate/bitrate, that would compare to a sacd or dvda recording. I may down sample the same recording using soundforge just to see if I can hear a difference in an a/b trial. The style of music is not that important to me, but orchestra or jazz would be nice.

http://www.linnrecords.com/linn-downloads.aspx They have many to choose from.

I downloaded their 24bit flac "test" file to my system, and converted it to several other formats (16bit/44.1khz flac, and various ogg, mp3 & m4a files), to see if I could tell a difference. I was able to identify the 24bit compared to the 16 bit version 4/4 times, but I had to really concentrate on it. Make sure your soundcard is capable of processing 24bit/96khz when you do this though. There's a good chance your computer will convert the file to 16bit and maybe resample it without you knowing, and then it'll sound the same.

I have a soundblaster live 5.1 card that I do believe is capable of handling 192/32, I'll have to check their website and make sure though. I also plan on expirementing with formats that are compatible with my dvd player. I had seen the link before in another post but couldn't find the link when I tried.

Thanks very much
