So after 2 and a half months of kicking frustration over my previous graphics card (check my pc build thread if you want more details) I finally have a very stable card with no issues. Now I want to see if it can do more. I have a Sapphire HD 5770 card now. As far as HD audio over HDMI, can anyone elaborate on this a little bit. Does it bypass my PCI sound card? Can I use both of them with out having to go into setting and change things, not necessarily at the same time? Does it bitstream or send it as PCM (not that it matters, I guess, I would just once like to see those lights come on my receiver) I would love to just run HDMI to my receiver instead of streaming through my PS3 to eliminate any firewall or buffering issues. Honestly, I could take the time and find out for myself, but I'm in the middle of holiday shopping season and simply do not have the energy to do it (I'm on the selling end, not the buying end ;) ). If anyone would like to help me out, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if it is possible to just run HDMI to the receiver and output audio through both places without changing anything, could someone link or describe the setup of that as well? As always, thanks for all your help in advance.

You might check out this thread:

But the short version is that you simply have ONE card (the Radeon 5770) for all your sound.

For now you need Windows 7 OS and Power DVD9 Ultra 2030 (latest patch for HD audio).

You can only use ONE digital Audio output at a time, and you set it up on Windows Sound Device Playback.

You can bitstream all the possible surround sound formats including DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HI RES, DOLBY TrueHD, and LPCM.

Thank you sir. What if I am using the analog outs of the PCI sound card and then the HDMI audio output? I'm running windows 7 but as of now don't have a blu-ray drive in my comp. I'm mainly concerned with being able to duplicate my screen in the other room with audio and all without too much of a hassle. Thanks again.

You can only choose ONE type of Audio output in the Windows Volume Playback Device setup/configuration. You cannot choose BOTH Analog and HDMI.

However, your receiver may be able to output to different zones.
