Would you mind to go to your setup menu and write down what are the values in your set up for us to see?

Ex: main= large or small
     sub = yes or no
     sub > 100Hz

so we can see how you set up your system.

I've have a similar issue with this reciever and my settings.

Main- large
sub- yes
sub- auto which is a defualt crossover.

I have to keep adjusting the volume on the sub depending on its us music vs Home Theater. All my speakers settings are set to large since they can handle the signal (Axiom Audio ).
Any suggestions ? Thanks.

Hi,
I am not expert here but this is my suggestions.

- If you set your speakers to large then the BASS will be sent to speakers and the sub ( Xover freq set by receiver) so if you don't know what it is, set your Xover on your Sub to max so don't cut off freq quency.

or
- Supposed your speakers can handle low freq, don't send bottom low freq to your speakers because they can't handle nicely as your sub.
Depend how good fo your speakers, set the Xover Freq of speakers at around 40hz, 50Hz, (it's your call) and then set the sub crossover freq (from your receiver) at 40-50. By doing this, all the freq below 40,50Hz will be routed to the sub. This is the beauty of sony ES which allows you to adjust Xover freq.
Xover on your sub is always set to max or larger than 40-50Hz so you don't cut off signal from the receiver and create a gap.

From then you move you sub around to get the best position, set the distance , level, equalizer...
if you have different sublevel for your music and movie, i recommend you have 2 EQs one for msuc and one for movie with different sub gain.

My set up:
- All speakers are set to small,
- Xover for speakers are 50 Hz for all speakres(since most speakes handle 50hz easily)
- set XOver for sub is 50hz.
- Set Xover on the sub is 100Hz

Hope this help and welcome other suggestions or comments.

New member here, and so far love the site. Anyways this seems to be sorta on the subject I have a question about. I also have the Sony DA4ES (using as a pre/pro) and was wondering what exactly the "LFE HIGH CUT" is for this receiver....is that some kind of cross-over ? It's on the SET-UP screen, screen 21/21.

Thanks

Its is a cross over which isn't clearly explained in manual. I thjink mime is set at 100 but yuo have other options like default which is 120. I'm still having issue with my sub and the adjustments. I just came back an saw my previous post on this topic. I'll have to try ahjusting the speakers to small and they are all set to large (Axiom speakers). I'm not comfortable making these adjustments on the reciever just yet.
