Have you ever set up something wrong but like it better than "the right way"???

When I moved into my apartment [years ago] my primary concern was to make sure that my 5.1 system didn't annoy my neighbors too much.

To get the overall volumes down I ended up running my center channel way hot / turned on "midnight" mode on my receiver / kept the overall volume down fairly low.

Now that I've calibrated my system to what is [basically] right I find that I don't like the way [most] of my movies sound.

I'm confident that this is an issue of I got used to listening to things this way for several years and now I'm just having a hard time breaking the habit.

Has anyone else set something up "wrong" [either on purpose or by accident] and then missed the way it used to sound once you fix it???

Way back I used to run surrounds out of phase to make them sound better, but no more, now we have better formats and processing plus Di-poles, 12-15 yrs ago it was fun.

I've bumped up the center channel, ran surrounds hot and goosed up subs in the past. It depends on your system, room, and preferences. Just don't buy a wall full of crappy JBL satellites and run them in networked Dolby Pro Logic trying to tell everyone it blows away Dolby Digital...lol.

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you. I have been told by a "very reliable source" that those JBL's ran multi-linked to one another. Does in fact blow Dolby Digital away. ;)

I miss my friend. :(
