Have been through 3 DVD Players!

Approximately 6 months ago I enclosed my 60" Rear Projection TV into the wall. I also built in 3 cubicles about 1 foot above the TV. In the cubicles I placed my home theater componants (receiver, DVD Player, TIVO, Cable box, and center channel speaker). About 30 days after completing the project I started having troubles with my Denon DVD player. If I stopped and ejected a DVD and then inserted a new one, the player would saying "loading" but the DVD would never load. If I paused a DVD during playback, it would never resume playing unless I unplugged the power cord from the DVD player and waited an hour.

Because the DVD player was about 3 years old, I thought I needed a new one. So I bought a new Toshiba DVD player. Again after about 30 days, the same symptoms began to appear! I had purchsed a replacement plan from Best Buy, so I returned the Toshiba DVD player and exhanged it for a comparable LG DCD player. Now, again after about 30 days, the player is having trouble!

I am convinced that the DVD players are not the problem but I can't figure out what is causing the DVD players to crap out. I have all of my componants plugged into surge protectors. I am not having issues with any other componant.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!:(

The bulb in your projection TV produces a lot of heat that is being trapped now by your enclosure. Is the trapped heat heating up the cubby and frying your DVD players?

Not only that....if you don't have adequate ventilation behind and/or above the TV, those bulbs can be very short-lived.

The TV does have plenty of ventilation. The back of the TV sits in the unfinished part of my basement. I am able to easily get to the rear of all the componants so that I can change cables or add new componants.

One thing I did not mention - I also installed new halogen lights in the ceiling - 3" lights spaced evenly arouond the perimeter of the room. Could this cause an issue?

Is the center channel magnetically shielded? If no, and it's close to the dvd player, this could be the problem.

Do you have a dedicated plug just for the dvd? If yes check voltage on line. How's the rest of the wiring?

Not sure if the center speaker is magnetically shielded. It is a polk speaker that I purchased about 8 years ago. According to the polk web site, all their speakers are magnetically shielded. I can't find any info on my specific model because it is so old.

Go to the Polk web site, and navigate to the customer service section or maybe the tech support section. Somewhere in there you'll find a link where you can send an e-mail to Polk. I used it last year to ask about an old speaker, and I got a reply in a day or so.
