Im still confused.I just bought a PS3 for the Blu-ray capabilites.I have it running thru an Onkyo 805 that decodes all the new formats.I was watching the new Rambo movie(pretty good actually) that is recorded in 7.1 DTS HD.My Onkyo only showed it as 5.1 DTS.

I have the PS3 set to bitstream, but after doing some reading here I switched it over to LPCM.When I do that my Onkyo shows its decoding it as Multi-Channel.Why wont it show it as the DTS-HD? It wont even appear as TueHD on my Onkyo display.I know this is stupid, but Id like it to show up on my display.

The PS3 doesn't bitstream DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD, Dolby TrueHD, or Dolby Digital Plus even over HDMI. If you set the PS3 to bitstream it will strip 7.1 DTS-HD MA down to standard DTS 5.1 surround. For best results set the PS3 to linear PCM over HDMI. The Onkyo won't light up and say DTS-HD MA, but at least you will be getting DTS-HD MA.:D The receiver will instead read as getting multichannel PCM.

The PS3 has some mapping issues with DTS-HD MA, it has nothing to do with your receiver, but with the way the PS3 handles that particular type of audio track. This has been discussed in depth on the bluray.com forums.

Some Lionsgate movies have issues with 7.1 DTS-HD soundtracks and the PS3. You have to make the PS3 force 7.1 or you get 5.1 even if you have a 7.1 setup. But OP your receiver should only read PCM and the corresponding channels when doing Uncompressed PCM, TrueHD, and DTS-HD/MA because the PS3 is the one decoding the sound. Sorry but no fancy blue lights for you in the Onkyo :D
