So they want you to buy an amp for 6.1/7.1? Looks pretty heavy duty, though not all too attractive for my taste. I'd be interested to see the 8 Ohm vs 4 Ohm rating.

The back panel has only 5 speaker level connections. I believe that means a 2ch amp will be required to power the rear surrounds using the 7.1 out connections. Please correct me if I am wrong.

That's probably because they decided to actually make the thing deliver sufficient power to 5 channels instead of doing a half-*** job with 7. Makes sense to me.

That is a very nice find Macman, and I happen to love the way it looks. I do have a question/comment though. It really reminds me of Rotel and Sunfire gear, any one else think that? Initially I was put off by the thought of needing a seperate amp, but if all channels are assignable couldn't you get a really beefy 2 channel amp for the mains? It wouldn't be a consideration for me anyway, for a number of reasons, namely I can't afford it and I don't have the room for 7.1, lol.

I think all of the newer stuff kind of all looks the same anyhow, everyone is going for tht Jetsons spacely sprockets look! i think it looks cool. Yeah one could get a nice amp for the mains, that would prob work pretty good. I only have 5.1 so it wouldn't bother me.

I was immediately reminded of Rotel. It's the silver that I don't like, I'd rather have it all black or all silver. I like plain and simple, but that guy is almost TOO simple looking. I hadn't thought about the fact that the amps are assignable, so that's a very good idea Takeereasy! I only have 5.1 too, so it doesn't bother me either and it's only a few hundred more than what I paid for my current receiver.

I got my 8400 for $451 US, I still think it would be an OK purchase at the MSRP, but I never could have bought it at that cost, plus in Canada it was well over $2k plus taxes. The back of that receiver (the adcom) is very well laid out, and Adcom is a name you can trust as far as I am concerned. Maybe Ah will get a review sample, lol. I'm attracted to the simple looking receivers as well. The flip panel on the front of the new Marantz units really improves the looks IMO.

OK, I know I read over things sometimes, but where does it state that all channels are assignable?

... and where did the information that it will be about $2K come from? I didn't see any pricing information at the link.

It says $1999 introductory price on the last line of the info from the PDF in Mac's post.

I am still talking to Adcom and trying to get more detailed specs on the unit. It is brand new, and I don't think they were prepared with all of the doccumentation for it.

That is a nice find. The only fault is that you have to buy an external amp if you're really in to HT, and enjoy DTS ES Discrete 6.1 encoded DVD's. A separate amp for the rear center is hard to justify after dropping 2 large on a powerful unit like that (if you must have 6.1). I agree, Rotel came to mind when I first saw it.
