Has anyone heard BIC MURO VI-38 in-wall speakers?

How does the sound compare with BIC's other speakers (DV84, DV62CLR, DV62si)?

Yes, I have. They are amazing, but you must have the proper volume in the wall to experience the bass from the large woofer. The tweeter is directional, which makes it perfect for in wall placement. Being able to direct the tweeter to the listening position is ideal for in wall speakers. It's a must since these type of speakers are stationary. We all know how vital speaker placement is for ideal sound.

The sound would equal or better the speakers you've mentioned - in an enclosure. The deciding factor is the volume in the wall. If it's too small, there won't be enough low end. If it's too large, you'll have very little punch. If your space can handle box speakers, I would take those over in walls. If it's a WAF, then go with the Muro's.

Thanks for the help. I am not sure I understand your comment about having the proper volume in the wall (I am a bit new at this). I have the DV84's as the fronts, and the DV62CLR-S for the center. I am now considering these in the walls as the surround speakers, or I could mount the DV62si's, and I am having a hard time deciding what to do. It's not just a WAF thing, I also want to strike the right balance between good sound and aesthetics. Could you explain a little more what you mean when you say the deciding factor is the volume in the wall. Thanks again.

Volume, air space in the wall where the speaker is installed

Volume, or area (air space)

Correct. The cavity in the wall will act as your box. You'll need about the same volume as your center channel. The instructions that come with the in-walls will tell you the correct volume. When you install these in wall speakers, you'll encounter a 16" wide by an 8' high cavity (in the wall) - unless there's an electrical junction box mounted to a horizontal 2x4 or a cold air return above/below. Usually what is needed is a few 2x4's above and below this wall cavity for the proper volume, or "air space." Too much volume, and you'll never hear the bass. Too little, the woofer will never produce it's potential lowest frequencies. They are very hard to dial in, and when dealing with sheetrock, you can make a real mess trying to get the correct volume (let alone location).

In other words, in order to sound good, the installation will require installing additional horizontal 2x4's above and below where the speaker will go, and the speakers will come with instructions as to how far and below is appropriate? It sounds like mounting the DV62si's with wall-brackets might be the easier way to go.

 If you do this to a conventional in-wall not knowing the T/S parameters for the woofer and you can seriously effect the low FS
of the speaker. That is why I recommended the above for use with infinite
Baffle designed in-wall speakers These are BIC in-wall's and while I think they
are decent they are still entry level in-wall speakers. I use them and install them in entry level HT's They are a good bang for the buck product. ;)

In this type of system, that shouldn't matter too much, as the sub will be handling those frequencies that would be most affected by the install. As long as the crossover is above 50Hz it should be fine. In an absolute sense the infinite baffle system is the way to go though.

Hello
Anything below 100Hz should be considered but you are correct that building a back box for a set of BIC in-wall's will pretty much be a waste of time ;)
Thus the recommendation for the soft open cell enclosure

An infinite baffle system with an 8" woofer is a complete waste of money. Go with the DV62's and mount them on a wall.
