My friend is looking to get a RX-V663 from best buy since he just got a bunch of gift cards for there for his birthday. He knows he can save $100 by getting it online, but his gift cards are for best buy. He wants to have them price match to an online dealer, but best buy's website says they do not do that. Has anyone ever had any success having best buy price match an online store?

1st, I would find a store that will match online prices. For example, my Ultimate Electronics will price-match online stores.

Then I would take this price from the local store and bring it to Best Buy for the match.

Excellent idea, but I'm not sure how many local stores actually carry that receiver around here, and then I don't know how many of them may actually price match a website. Hopefully he can work something out though.

My local BB will NOT match any on-line site other than CC, Sears, and etc. However, before they do, they call the store to see if it is in stock. If not, then no match. What a bunch of tight-wads.

Cheers,

Phil

If you cannot find a local store that will price-match online, then the next best thing is wait for the receiver to go on sale, which is usually $50 off retail.

Hi,
I tried to get a brick and mortar BB to price match their own website and they refused.:mad:

I have not been back to a BB since.

Good luck with your search.

I got them to match Walmart.com They said they normally wouldn't do it, but when the guy called, they didn't answer so he just gave it to me. They also said their policy is that if there is no retail store, such as Amazon, they won't match it.

Exactly, my local BB will ONLY match a local competitor and the item(s) has to be in-stock at the time of price matching. Thus, they will call to make sure. The sad part is, my local BB will NOT even match their own web-site price.:eek: That is messed up imho. Also, BB on-line requires you to pay taxes on your purchase whereas most other on-line retailers don't.

Cheers,

Phil

I work for best buy. I will, for the most part, match online retailers as long as they are an authorized retailer. If they are not an authorized retailer, I tell the customer they can buy it for the savings at their own risk. I haven't come across too many online retailers that we couldn't match when they are authorized by the manufacturer. Hope this helps.

Mike

BTW:price matching this way is 100% up to the manager that is on duty at that time. Some are more willing to build customer happiness and some are more likely to want to make the profit, it will really depend on the manager and their mood.

Phil,

That's b/c BB has physical stores in your location. Online retailers are exempt from sales tax charges if they don't have a physical store in your state. If a store exists then the retailer must charge sales tax- it was a way for states to make sure that they don't lose out on tax revenue once online sales started really picking up sometime in the late 90s. Some states/localities have even started to expand that rule to include more online sales- Amazon sales in the state of NY are now subject to sales tax charges (as of July 1) that never previously existed.

BB Coupon.

Look for a BB 10% off coupon to make their price closer to the online one. If you can't find one, ask the salesman and he might be able to give you the discount or promotion code. My friends just bought a washer/dryer and best buy matched the 10% off coupon they had for Lowes.

I am not sure, but the way it was explained to me all on-line bb purchases are taxed regardless of where you reside at within the US of course. However, the way you explain it makes sense too. One thing I have noticed about my local bb, they are by the book so to speak. Lord help you if you pay cash for a large purchase and then have to return it. If this has ever happened to you, I am sure you know what I mean.

Cheers,

My local BB price matched Dell.ca when I got my PS3. It was really regular price plus a free HDMI cable and an extra controller. They checked online to be sure the online sale was still valid and gave me the deal.

Since BB has a store in every state, there's no getting around the sales taxes from them by shipping to another state. If you live in Delaware (a state w/ no sales taxes) then you're not paying tax anyway. The key here is not to give online shoppers a loophole around paying taxes just b/c they ordered online when they easily could have gone down the street to buy the exact same thing.

On a side note, I've noticed that BB has been focusing most of their better deals (particular with financing) on their physical stores as opposed to the website. Since their shipping costs are high and you cannot get any tax savings, you're almost always better off buying the product in the store.

Excellent point. Very well spoken. IMHO, you hit the nail right on the head per se.

The manager at BB matched the online price for my Pioneer 1015 without hesitation when I bought it. Saved me about $100. I called them up, though, and didn't do it in person. I saw a news article (after that) that you're more likely to get a price match over the phone then in person because the store figures that you're more willing to go somewhere else if all you have to do is hang up. The theory worked in my case, anyway.
