Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I can't believe this movie doesn't have a thread? I'm sure there is one buried somewhere, but the search feature did not pull it up. With the recent BD release, you'd surely think it would resurface to the front page of this board. What is your take on this movie? I watched this last night, and I am glad I decided to only rent the BD. I just want this series to end already, but I still can't resist watching the most recent installment.......LOL

IMO......it was 2hrs 33mins of mostly nothing but back story filler. Albeit....with only one major development at the very end. Let's please have the much anticipated Harry-vs-Valdimort final showdown before Harry dies of old age already!! For fans of the franchise, it's definitely worth watching, but I am a bit surprised that it still rakes in huge money at the box office.

I give parts 1 & 2 five stars, but it's slowly declined to mediocrity.

Half Blood Prince = 3 stars.

Apparently you don't care for dramatic plot developement.:D

I really enjoyed Half-Blood Prince. The picture and sound are top shelf as well.

Not a big HP fan nor have I read the books. This movie to me was a 2 1/2 hour snore feast.

I really like it. Sure it doesn't have so much action as all the others, but perhaps it's the calm before the storm. I have not read the books, and I don't plan to until all the movies have come out. That being said, it does a good job of showing the building relationships between the characters and showing how bad things are getting. SQ and PQ are really good on the BD. Now I just need to get all the prior ones on BD.

Maybe I was a bit harsh, but I expected more from the series. I did like it...don't get me wrong. I just expected to be thrilled, and the movie left me wanting more.

Maybe 3 stars was a bit harsh..... 3.5 might be more fitting. I find the backstory very interesting, but I was hoping more would develop during this installment.

I heard the last book is going to be broken up into two movies, but they are going to film them back to back and release them seven months apart.

That is true. In the Blu-ray special features, you get a small peak at the next movie and they are splitting it up. It will be November 2010, then June or July 2011.

I preferred the audio and action in Order of the Phoenix to the Half Blood Prince. (They removed the big fight from the book for the movie in THBP.)

I look forward to seeing the special features when I BUY the Blu-Ray used in a few months on E-bay. This is one of those Warner discs where the extras got stripped for the rental market.

What do you mean? I haven't gotten around to watching them yet, but this Blu-Ray release has one disc dedicated to special features. I have the 3-disc set.

He means for the RENTAL market the special features were dropped.

This movie was average at best. I wasn't impressed with it.

I didn't think that the PQ was bad at all on it. I just didn't happen to find the movie very engaging.

Really? As a huge fan of the books I think that's a backwards way to approach it. The books contain the real story, the movies (with the exception of the first 2) are really just a shell of the story with special effects and nice AQ. Having read the books, I think it helps better understand what's going on and why they decided to show what they show.

As to the comments about the movie being a bit boring, I completely agree.... but that's because they left out one of the best action scenes in the entire series. The end of book 6 contains a huge battle scene (after Dumbledore is killed) that would have been fantastic to see onscreen. I was incredibly upset that they decided to omit it.

Book 6 in general was less action packed than most of the others (it was also one of the darkest books), but that's because it was used to set up the final book. For those that aren't reading the books, I think the 6th movie will make a whole lot more sense once you see the last part.

watched it last night. that was one of the worst pq BD's i have seen. and no, its not my gear. ICE AGE 2 friday night looked pretty good.

the story itself was good. not great, but good. my wife wanted me to take her to the show to see it. when it was over last night, she said " i'm glad we didn't go"

The reason I want to wait for all of the movies to be done, is that I had started watching the movies and hadn't read the books, and everyone that I have spoken to has usually said that the books are better than the movies. Thus they have always been a bit disappointed with the movies. I don't want to feel disappointed with the movies, I want to be able to enjoy them, then enjoy reading the books as I learn more details that I didn't get from the movies.
