Harmony One Remote... Not too shabby...

I just picked one of these up for my theater room... My cable box remote wouldn't control my UMC1, and on the emo forums a lot of people said this one worked... So I tried it, Best Buy has it on sale for $159 {but you have to have them look up the website because its $199 in the store}...

It was really easy to set up, just get your make and model of everything you want to control, then put the disc in your pc, and plug in the remote, answer the questions it asks, put the model info in and your done... Now I can simply het TV and my tv, avr, and cable box come on, then the volume is controlled through the avr, channels through the cable box, and tv is always on the rite input...

But anyway at first I was thinking $150 for a remote is insane, but as long as this lasts 10 years it is worth it...

I've been thinking of getting something like this. Don't know yet what kind though.

Looked at a few, now I've been using this one and have to agree with the reviews, its a very nice design, simple to setup and works great... I press the screen where it says watch tv, it turn on my avr, tv, and cable box, all to the right channels... Although I think $160 is expensive for any remote that doesnt cook breakfast, it does its job...

We it works it works well. I have had four now and the buttons always wear out to soon. Ten years is not going to happen, a couple if you are lucky. My first one was before they were bought out by logitech and it did last about five years but the scroll wheel was not making good connection all the time. The second one died after oneyear, the second one the dog ate so not their fault. the third one the channel buttons wore out after two years, I called support and after many tries, got thru to someone that said that was normal. The last one I bought, I figured I would up the ante and got the rechargeable one. It still works, but it too is not consistant. Too bad they do work well when they work. Just me, my wife and the dogs so no rug rats to mess them up. Just my experience yours hopefully will be different.

I got the harmony one as well when it was on sale at amazon for $149.99. I had considered getting one of the other universal remotes, but I just didn't need ability to do the complicated macros.

I wish the harmony let me do a bit more customization, but so far it's great and has worked flawlessly.

I do a fair amount of channel watching but it was not just the channel button that wore out the number one and two others. The buttons still work but some times you have to hit them more than once to get results. Of course that does not always work well depending on if you are changing to a macro.

If this thing only lasts a year that means it will cost me $13+ a month for a remote, that would suck... I havent had it long, but so far it is flawless, I dont think I have a scroll wheel, just buttons, but I did get a 2 year warranty for $12.. If it breaks after that, Ill buy another one and return it with this one in the box ...

With that, and if it only lasts you two years, then it will have cost you less than 25 cents a day. If you use your remote as much as I use mine, then that's not a bad price. :)

I will be happy if it lasts for 2 years, we dont use it a ton, I listen to music more tha watch tv, and usually watch tv in the bedroom before bed and news in the am while getting ready for work.. My kids watch tv in their rooms and mostly video games... The theater where the remote is, is used for movies an dmy wife... So not a ton of use...

Does logitech have an app that works on an ipad? That would be great and fix the button wearing out problem.:)

I looked into the harmony link that does just that, but I decided that $160 on a remote is better than spending $80 on the harmony link and seeing my $500 ipad 2 stuck in the couch every day...

My Harmony 880 started having problems around the 2 year mark but I was able to keep using it for about 5 years albeit living with some annoyances like the charging problems. I replaced it with a Harmony 1100 and I also have a One for my living room system. They are good remotes overall but there seems to be a degree of planned hardware obsolescence built in. The Harmony software is due for an overhaul... they haven't upgraded it in 2 years.

I hear a bunch of these reliability issues with Harmony remotes. I guess I would keep it simple with their remotes if I were to use one. Love my MX-850 remotes in my home... 8+ years of usage without any issues. Tied in with my Crestron for zero issues at all.

Hope you get more than a couple of years out of it!

Harmony 1100 FTW!

The shear WAF factor of not hearing "which remote do I use to turn on xyz?" is so worth it! She loves it now and couldn't do without it ever again.

I replaced my Harmony 550 with a 750 only because of a deluge of water that hit it when the washing machine drain let go one floor above. Other than that, it worked flawlessly for more than 5 years.
